Disposable Income and Quality of Games Main Reason People Gamble

Published

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A recent casino study highlights that as disposable income increases among the population, so does the participation in online gaming. This correlation suggests that economic growth directly contributes to the expansion of the gambling sector in Brazil.

Also, the quality and excitement of casino games serve as the biggest motivator, attracting players to spend their free time playing either lottery or casino games. This unique combination of financial capability and game quality drives the gambling behavior in Brazil, marking a trend that intertwines economic conditions with entertainment choices.

According to 7JP, gamblers in Brazil are motivated by different factors, among which disposable income and game quality emerge as paramount. The thrill of the gamble, the accessibility of online and offline gaming opportunities, and the perception of fairness play pivotal roles in attracting players.

Notably, 48% of participants cited their budget or disposable income as the biggest motivator, and 40% play for the thrill of the activity itself, while 31% were drawn by the quality of games. This data underscores the multifaceted motivations behind gambling activities, where economic factors blend with the pursuit of entertainment, highlighting a broad spectrum of incentives that fuel the gambling market in Brazil.

These are the other motivators to gamble:

  • The thrill of playing is an exciting form of entertainment: 40%
  • The quality of games (online content): 31%
  • The regulation and legality of games in local currency: 24%
  • Availability of gambling opportunities (online and offline): 23%
  • Ads and promotions I see/hear: 20%
  • The perception of the fairness of a gambling option or operator: 17%
  • Recommendation from friends/family: 25%

According to recent Statista.com gambling data, the lottery reigns supreme with a staggering 58% of active gamers participating in 2023. Mega-Sena, the country’s largest national lottery, epitomizes the popularity of lottery games.

Following lottery games, sports betting and Jogo do bicho hold significant sway among gamblers, with participation rates of 32% and 29%, respectively. This distribution of preferences reveals a diverse gambling landscape in Brazil, where traditional games like the lottery coexist with sports betting, each attracting a distinct segment of the population

Players in Brazil are spending more on online games and gambling as they have more money to spare. What really draws them in are the fun and high-quality games offered by casinos and lotteries. It’s not just about having extra cash; the excitement of the games plays a big part too.
