Denmark’s online gaming revenue overtakes land-based gaming revenue

Spillemyndigheden, Denmark’s gaming regulator, reports that online gaming activities account for more than 50% of the total gambling revenue in the country.
In its annual report, the organisation specified the ratio of revenue: 51.5% is generated by online gambling platforms, an increase from 47.4% in the previous year.
The total gambling revenue in Denmark for the past year amounted to DKK9.2bn (€1.24bn/$1.53bn), with lotteries being the major income provider by generating DKK3.1bn.
Sports betting, both the land-based and online markets combined, is the second revenue generation, with DKK2.3bn in revenue, up by 7.4% than the previous year. Online casino revenue registered a sharp rise of 15.5% year-on-year to DKK1.8bn.
Income from gaming machines outside of casinos decreased 1% to DKK1.49bn, while there is no change in the land-based casino revenue, which remained at DKK375m.
The report’s other important findings are that Danish consumers spend an average of DKK38.50 on gaming products each week and that 50% of those who bet online are male and aged under 35.
According to Spillemyndigheden, Denmark is one of the highest-spending countries in gambling.
Estimated according to gross gaming revenue per capita, Denmark stands third for betting and casino games; however, it is ranked 13th for lotteries.
