eSports odds calculation and risk management with Vlastimil Venclik (CEO, oddin.gg) at Prague Gaming Summit 3
Legalsportsreport.com reported that sports betting represents the most popular product among eSports fans. Betting on eSports is more or less identical to betting on traditional sports, with the limitations that the eSports betting product is far less developed than the traditional sports betting product.
Players can choose between cash-based or skins-based sites when betting on eSports matches.
In terms of popular games, real-money League of Legends betting leads the pack, but CS:GO betting is a close second and closing ground, according to an analysis by Narus Advisors / Eilers & Krejcik Gaming.
This (relatively) new type of betting got off to a slow start, but it has gained a lot of traction over the last couple of years. This is also thanks to the adoption by the millennials and the growth has been so explosive that it’s been estimated that the global esports betting market will be worth nearly $30 billion by the year 2020.
The eSports fanbase is huge, but it’s nowhere near as big as the fanbases for traditional sports such as soccer, football and tennis. Most people outside of those types of fanbases don’t have any idea what eSports are all about. They certainly don’t know anything about betting on them. Imagine when this convergence will start to happen.
