Zambia to Establish a Regulator for Lottery
The government of Zambia has decided to set up a regulator for the gaming and lottery activities in the country. The move precedes widespread complaints about the lack of strong regulation to streamline lottery and gambling activities.
North-western Province Permanent Secretary Willies Mangimela emphasised the need to have proper regulations:
“As you may be aware the government has noted with concern that the current legislations for gaming and lotteries sector in the country are fragmented resulting in loss of revenue to the government.”
He added that committee has been formed to establish a regulator:
“It is my hope that this process will culminate into responsive legislation that will enable the Ministry of Finance harmonize and establish a regulator of gaming and lotteries in Zambia.”
Both online and land-based casinos will come under the purview of the new regulation.
