30th January, 2018 – Award-winning slots specialist Play’n GO has agreed to supply its full suite of games to Mexican operator Logrand Entertainment Group.

The operator currently runs 14 casinos across Mexico and earlier this month announced it would be launching its new interactive division, Strendus.

The deal sees Play’n GO continue its global expansion, with its first Mexican partnership following a similar deal in the Czech Republic and recent gaming certification in Spain and Colombia.

Play’n GO will provide its premium range of more than 100 slots to Strendus, including popular titles Reactoonz, Sea Hunter, as well as regionally-targeted titles Grim Muerto and Aztec Warrior Princess.

Johan Tornqvist, CEO at Play’n GO, said: “Logrand is a well-established casino operator in the Mexican market, and we’re pleased to be partnering them in our first foray into the territory.

“With our experience in the LatAm region and Logrand’s casino expertise, we’re sure this partnership will be a success with players enjoying our wide range of slots and tailored content.”

Lenin Castillo, COO at Logrand Entertainment Group, said: “We’re pleased to be bringing Play’n GO’s extensive, quality gaming content to our Mexican players for the first time under our new online brand, Strendus.

“Play’n GO’s reputation in delivering secure, certified content to territories around the world, the immediate convergence between physical and online that its system allows, plus the excellent and professional service they provide in an expeditious manner, were all key factors in securing this partnership, and we have ambitious plans for growth in the coming months together.”

Mexico’s Grupo Televisa back for PlayCity sell-off

Mexico’s Grupo Televisa conglomerate has restarted its efforts to sell its International Bets subsidiary, which includes PlayCity Casino and PlayCity Apuestas businesses. The group had earlier tried unsuccessfully to sell the ventures.

The PlayCity has 17 terrestrial gaming venues providing 7200 electronic gaming machines and online sports betting services powered by European tech provider Kambi.

Blackstone Group, a private equity giant that bought Spanish gaming operator Cirsa Gaming Corp, is the front runner for acquiring PlayCity. Spanish gaming giant Codere, which already operated in Mexico through its Codere.mx site, is also tipped to be in the race.

Televisa does not break out PlayCity’s exact contribution to the conglomerate’s revenue, instead of bundling the gaming division’s performance into its catch-all “other” category. This category contributed a mere 8% of Televisa’s Q2 revenue and just 2% of its operating income. The PlayCity venues reportedly welcomed 4m visitors in 2017, a 42% year-on-year improvement.

Televisa is reportedly looking to raise $300m from the sale, which is part of a plan to ditch its non-core operations. The company reportedly expects to conclude a transaction within 90 days, although those previous reports in May claimed a deal would be done by July or August, so feel free to take this new timeline with a grain of salt (tequila and lemon slice optional).

PlayCity is believed to hold licenses that allow the company to open up to 50 gaming venues, although that capacity may not survive a transfer of ownership, particularly given the market’s regulatory uncertainty and widespread complaints regarding questionable licensing tenders.

Dash eyes expansion in Mexico

The falling crypto-currency entity Dash, ranked 14th amidst top cryptocurrencies, is eying massing expansion in the gambling markets of Mexico. The Dash Core Group announced an aggressive growth strategy in Mexico through credit cards, gaming and Mexican workers abroad.

“Mexico in particular started to stick out for us,” said Bradley Zastrow, DCG’s Head of Business Development.  “Over 90 per cent of the inbound remittances are coming from a single point of origin, the US, and we know we’ve got probably the best and most complete infrastructure in that market.”

In addition, Dash’s existing relationships in the country, along with a regional office in Mexico City, offer advantages in developing Mexican partnerships.

The pivot complements simultaneous developments in the hemisphere, particularly in South America. The Dash DAO has voted to fund developments in Latin America, and has established a partnership with Brazil’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.

But the brightest spot was Venezuela, where Digital Cash experiences more use than all other cryptocurrencies combined. More than 800 Venezuelan merchants now accept Dash, and DCG is entertaining the idea of hiring a country manager to supplement the work of local groups and facilitate simpler payments.

“We’re launching a partner at the end of August which will result in a device that not only wraps three international partners into a larger solution for both Venezuela and Latin America at large, but also provides a physical asset that can help the community with adoption and scale on the ground,” Zastrow said.
