Best videogames to have been set in New Jersey
Reading Time: 2 minutes

There have not been many video games to have been set in the state of New Jersey, however there have been some exceptional ones that have been released over the years.

There have been a number of classics, whilst there have been some that are perhaps just not necessarily associated with the state in the first place, which provides players with a rather unique twist and one that would not have been expected, just like when bettors look for the best casino apps, some unexpectedly pop up.

So, what are the best video games to have ever had part of their storylines set in New Jersey? Here is a list of a few of those titles that video game fans will remember from the past.

Road Riot 4WD

Road Riot 4WD is an arcade racing game developed by Atari Games, originally released in 1991. In the game, players control a dune buggy equipped with weapons and try to win global competitions.

The player controls a four-wheel-drive dune buggy equipped with weapons. After conquering the basic track, players will have to browse 11 other tracks to win the championship. Locations are Saudi Arabia, Iowa, Africa, Swiss Alps, Lower Mexico, Antarctica, Ohio, Las Vegas, New Jersey, California and Australia.

The player must defeat three cars to win each race. An unlimited number of missiles are used to repel opponents. Crashing into certain obstacles will enable players to collect additional points.

The Sopranos: Road to Respect

The Sopranos: Road to Respect is a 2006 video game by American developer 7 Studios based on the hit HBO series The Sopranos, which aired from January 10, 1999 to June 10, 2007. The game was released on November 7. from 2006.

Following the New Jersey-based Mafia mob, the story of the game takes place between the fifth and sixth seasons and focuses on Big Pussy Bonpensiero’s illegitimate son, Joey LaRocca, as he makes his way into the family business.

Unlike the TV show, the game focuses almost entirely on the mafia aspect of The Sopranos, rather than the integration of family, business, and therapy that fans of The Sopranos are used to.

Tony Hawk’s Underground

Tony Hawk’s Underground (sometimes abbreviated as THUG) is a skateboarding video game published by Activision in 2003, the fifth entry in the Tony Hawk series.

The Underground series provides players with the ability to get off their stake boards and explore places on foot, which is extremely different to the other editions within the franchise. The story follows the player character and their friend, Eric Sparrow, as the two turn pro and grow bigger.

Eric Sparrow lives in the suburbs of New Jersey and dreams of becoming famous skateboarders and travels all over the United States to make his dream come true.

Max Payne

Max Payne is a third-person shooter developed by Remedy Entertainment Plc in which the player takes on the role of the title character, Max Payne. There have been three editions of the Max Payne games released as of 2020.

The first instalment of the game franchise was set in August 1998, as Max returned to his home in New Jersey and discovered that three junkies had broken into his house while on a new drug called Valkyr. Max rushed to help his family, but it was too late: his wife Michelle (Haviland Morris) and their newborn daughter Rose had already been brutally murdered, which led him to deep despair. After their funeral, Payne moved to the DEA.

UK risks losing safer gambling leadership position – warns BetBlocker.org chief of partnerships

Pedro Romero, chief of partnerships at safer gambling software provider BetBlocker.org has highlighted the sense of insecurity among Research, Education and Treatment organisations arising from the publication of the UK Government’s White Paper on gambling reform.

Speaking following February’s edition of ICE where BetBlocker and US-based International Centre for Responsible Gambling (ICRG), shared a £41,000 pool which was provided by leading brands Light and Wonder, Flutter, Betsson Group, IGT, Novomatic, Neccton and Playtech Pedro Romero noted: “The main talking points at ICE 2024, particularly in relation to safer gambling, revolved around the publication of the White Paper which has caused so much anxiety.

“It’s concerning that many in the third sector feel alienated from critical conversations about the future of safer gambling and harm minimisation.

“The potential implications of this disconnect are significant, not just for the individuals and communities we serve, but for the UK’s reputation in the field.

“We must find a way to bridge this gap and work together to address the challenges ahead. Otherwise, I fear the UK risks losing its leadership position in advancing safer gambling practices.”

Regarding the £20,500 donation which was presented at ICE he added: “We have earmarked these funds with a dual purpose in mind. Primarily, it will assist with our running costs, which as a small charity is crucial for the sustainability of our operations.

“Additionally, we are excited about a very special project that we’re planning for ICE 2025 in Barcelona. Without giving too much away, it’s a development that aims to pay tribute to both Clarion and the city of Barcelona. We believe it will make a significant impact and we look forward to unveiling it.”

Romero spoke positively about the relocation to Barcelona stating: “ICE 2024 served as a fantastic farewell to London, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in Barcelona.

“While there’s a certain sadness in leaving a city that has been such a great host, the move to Barcelona is an exciting development. It represents a fresh opportunity for ICE to be the global gaming hub in a vibrant, dynamic city. We are very much looking forward to what the future holds in this new location.”
