Bird & Bird expanding Hungarian office
International law firm Bird & Bird will welcome two partners, three senior counsel and a team of 15 lawyers to the firm’s Budapest office on February 1, providing a significant and strategic boost to the firmʼs Hungarian offering.
Partners David Dederick and Konrád Siegler, together with their team from Weil, Gotshal & Manges, will be combining with the existing Bird & Bird team in Hungary to form a practice able to offer clients significantly broader and deeper advice than either of the two practices individually, according to a press release sent to Budapest Business Journal.
The move comes as Weil, Gotshal & Manges announced it will close its Budapest office from February 1, although it says it will have ongoing cooperation with the new combined Bird & Bird team to assist global clients.
David Dederick has been practising in Central and Eastern Europe for more than 25 years, specialising in cross-border M&A, private equity and real estate matters. The current Managing Partner of Weil, Gotshal & Manges’ Budapest office, David joins Bird & Bird as co-head of Budapest, alongside Bird & Birdʼs existing head, Peter Knight. David has been consistently ranked and recognised as a leading lawyer by Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and IFLR 1000. His clients fall predominantly into the Tech & Comms, Energy & Utilities, and Life Sciences & Healthcare sectors.
Konrád Siegler has also been practising for more than 25 years. He specialises in banking & finance and capital markets transactions, and also has considerable experience in M&A, privatizations, bankruptcy and restructuring matters and general corporate and commercial law. He has represented Hungarian and international banks (as well as other borrowers) in numerous project finance and syndicated lending transactions. He has also advised on regulatory matters in connection with several bank sale, purchase and merger transactions. He is regularly ranked as one of Hungary’s leading banking and capital markets lawyers.
Joining with David and Konrád is a team of three senior counsels who are strongly recognised in the market: Pál Szabó and Ferenc Mátrai (both corporate) and László Nanyista (dispute resolution). They join Bird & Bird counsel Bálint Halász.
With a team of 15 additional lawyers joining (ten associates and five trainees), the new combined Bird & Bird team will total 29 lawyers, representing one of the most significant developments in the local legal market.
Since opening ten years ago, the Bird & Bird Budapest office has built up strong expertise in intellectual property, tech and communications, dispute resolution and data protection matters, which will complement the new teamʼs market leading expertise in corporate, commercial, dispute resolution, regulatory and finance work, with key clients in the energy, banking and finance, telecom and media sectors.
The combination will also create a strong presence in the sports sector and real estate market. This will enable Bird & Bird to offer a far broader range of services to its existing clients in Hungary, and in the wider Central and Eastern European region.…

Stakelogic ensures it’s max fun at MaxBet.ro
Popular studio’s classic and video slots now available to operator’s players in Romania
Players at MaxBet.ro in Romania should strap themselves in for an online slot thrill ride like no other after the popular operator put pen to paper on a deal with tier-one developer, Stakelogic.
The partnership will see MaxBet.ro add Stakelogic content to its game lobby for the very first time. This includes the studio’s traditional classic slots as well as its big-action video slots. The integration has been facilitated by the leading aggregator, EveryMatrix.
Stakelogic has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the charts with its slots that have been designed to put players on the edge of their seats with every spin – whether classic or video. In fact, the provider’s classic slots are some of the most entertaining in the market.
A sense of nostalgia is stirred through the instantly-recognisable fruit (melons, cherries, grapes, oranges, etc), BAR, 7 and Bell symbols that land on the reels. But the gameplay is levelled up through features such as Wilds, Multipliers and even Free Spins, providing a classic slot experience like no other.
Classic titles include Multi6Player, Multi Player, Bonus Runner, Runner Runner Megaways and Big Runner Deluxe.
If it’s explosive gameplay that MaxBet.ro players are looking for, that is what they will find in Stakelogic’s video slots. Titles such as Money Track, Treasures of Ra, Spartans vs Zombies Megaways, Greedy Fox and soon-to-launch Money Track 2 combine striking visuals, booming sound and monster bonuses to get the adrenaline flowing as the potential for a mega win builds.
Stakelogic is committed to being at the cutting edge of online casino game development, and this is evident in features such as Super Stake and Spin to Win, both of which are now available to MaxBet.ro players in Romania.
Super Stake allows players to effectively double their bet to increase the chance of a bonus triggering and insane win combinations landing, while Spin to Win combines RNG gameplay with live dealer for the first time. It sees players spin a live prize wheel for the chance to potentially win big.
Danila Dzehs, Senior Sales Manager at Stakelogic, said: “Our games have been designed to provide unrivalled levels of fun, excitement and entertainment, and MaxBet.ro players can now experience this for themselves for the first time. Our classic and video slots have hit the mark with players across Europe, and it will be no different in Romania.
This is another important partnership for us, adding a player-favourite operator to our impressive roster of customers. We now look forward to seeing MaxBet.ro players enjoy the max entertainment our games have allowed us to build our reputation on.”
Secaci Matei, Promotional Manager at MaxBet.ro, added: “The addition of Stakelogic allows us to turbo-charge our game lobby with content that gets pulses racing with every spin. Classic or video, the developer’s slots are proven with players across Europe and they will absolutely be a big hit with ours in Romania.”

Romanian Regulator Revokes the Licence of Goldprest Impex
The Romanian gambling regulator has revoked the licence of slots operator Goldprest Impex SRL due to it not paying its full licence fee. The Gambling Supervisory Committee launched an investigation into several issues and found that outstanding fees were owed.
The regulator first believed that Goldprest had not paid the correct amount, paying just RON97,753 of RON366,573, leaving a debt of RON268,820 (€55,000). However, it turned out that the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) registered the full amount having been paid in two instalments in November 2022 but reduced the amount to RON97,753 after accounting for certain compensations.
On March 20 and 22, Goldprest Impex submitted a statement rectifying the difference and paid RON268,869, slightly more than the initial debt due to changes in the exchange rate. However, it submitted a number of rectification statements relating to Q4 2021.
The Gambling Supervisory Committee found that these reduced the operator’s authorisation fee for the period so that it was less than the fee it owed, with seven rectifications totalling RON444,348.
The regulator voted to cancel these submissions, finding them to be without legal basis. It said it found a similar situation with the company’s defect tax. It says it has now cancelled the operator’s licence and ordered it to pay the difference in the authorisation fee. Goldprest Impex is expected to appeal against the decision. It has 30 days to do so, but the licence revocation is effective immediately.
