Greece could offer three casino licenses

The government is reportedly considering the opening of gambling facilities in three tourist destinations.
The Greek government is reportedly discussing the provision of gambling facilities in three tourist destinations like Mykonos, Santorini and Crete. The gaming licenses are included in a draft bill tabled in Parliament.
The three casinos have been severely discussed during the last few months, but no further information has been released by the government. The tabled draft bill establishes three new gaming licenses for those islands in Greece, whilst the six casinos in operation in the territory would be allowed to relocate.
The Greek Ministry of Finance is behind the push, as it is trying to open the existing Greek gambling market, which seems like a monopoly from certain points of view. The bill that also considers online gambling is seeking new regulations in the European country.
Although the draft bill is expected to be voted before Christmas, it is estimated that it would come into force on January 1, 2020. If the bill makes it through the government, it could translate into the relocation of Regency Casino Mont Parnes, in Athens, as well as other facilities such as the ones located in Thessaloniki, Rio, Loutraki, Florina, and Alexandroupolis.
Moreover, the bill that is waiting in Parliament proposes a decrease in the tax rate as the one on casinos as gaming tax liability currently moves around 22 to 35 percent. This move will be up for consultation until December 11.
