Swedish MP pushes divestment of Svenska Spel S&C

Member of Parliament Jonas Andersson (SD) has submitted a written question to Minister of Finance Elisabeth Svantesson (M) whether she intends to take any measures to divest the part of the state-owned gambling company Svenska Spel that operates in the competitive gambling market where, among other things, sports betting and online casino are offered. That business is consolidated in the company Svenska Spel Sport & Casino. In his question to Finance Minister Svantesson, MP Andersson reminds that both his and her party were in favor of such a divestment of Svenska Spel Sport & Casino before the parliamentary election, which took place in Sweden just under a year ago.
Gustaf Hoffstedt, Secretary General of BOS, comments:
“BOS supports the view that the state should not act as a commercial actor in the competitive gambling market. We hope that this initiative can contribute to a successful privatization of Svenska Spel Sport & Casino during the incumbent government’s remaining three years in power.â€
The question can be found on the Riksdag’s website: https://www.riksdagen.se/sv/dokument-och-lagar/dokument/skriftlig-fraga/svenska-spel-abs-framtid_ha11849/
The minister is obliged to answer the question in writing by 24 July at the latest.
