Dover Downs Casino to host gambling addiction programme on Thursday, the 15th of March
Dover Downs, a hotel, casino, and racetrack complex in Dover, Delaware will host the Service Members, Veterans and Gambling Addiction programme on Thursday the 15th of March at the hotel’s conference centre.
The programme which intends to promote awareness on the preventive measures to be adopted is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., co-sponsored by the Delaware Council on Gambling Problems, the National Council on Problem Gambling, and Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Heather Chapman, a clinical psychologist and nationally-certified gambling counsellor. He is also the Deputy Director of the Veterans Addiction Recovery Centre and the Director of the Gambling Treatment Programme at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Centre, Ohio.
Topics to be covered in the programme include: Gambling Disorder Fundamentals; Personal Stories: Impact of Gambling; Delaware Resources For Gambling Addictions, and Law Enforcement’s Response. It is estimated that 56,000 active duty U.S. service members have a gambling problem. The average rate of disordered gambling is nearly two times higher among active duty service members than among the general U.S. population.
